          This note is to express my great appreciation for your book—Who Speaks for the Negro.  May I add also my thanks for your autograph, “made in friendship.”

          I have not read the book through as I shall do very soon but I have read enough to convince me of its great value as the portrayal of thoughts by Negroes over a wide range and at a time of great significance in American race relations.  I am honored to be included in the book and honored even more in your judgment that I might have something to say worth repeating.  I hope that before it is too late I might have a commentary of some significance on our critical times in America and elsewhere.
