Dear Sir:
I am in the final stages of doing a book of interviews with various Negro leaders (including James Forman and Stokely Carmichael) to be published this winter by Random House, Inc. In the book I wish to quote a letter by Clarence H. Graham, a student at Rock Hill College, S.C., to his mother and father. I first bevame (became) acquainted with the letter in an unpublished dissertation by Tom Rose, a copy of which Stokely Carmichael gave me. When I applied for formal permission to reprint, to Mr (Mr.) Rose, he wrote that he had taken the letter from your Student Voice, one of the early issues, and that I should address myself to you.
Can you give me permission to reprint the letter? If there is a fee, what is the amount?
Since the time for going to press approavhes, (approaches), I should be grateful for an earlt (early) reply.
Very sincerely yours,
Robert Penn Warren
