Dear Sirs:

          I am about to finish a book to be called Who Speaks For The Negro, based on interviews with Negro leaders in various parts of the country, to be published by Random House this winter.

          In this book I wish to quote a short passage from an article “The View from the Back of the Bus,” by Marlene Nadle, which appeared in your pages (pp 5, 14) September 5, 1963.  The passage begins “Frank Harman was asked why since he was white, he wanted to go to Nigeria …” and runs on some 28 or 30 lines to:  “I’ll tell you this, proving he is sincere when he is working in the civil rights groups is the last chance …”

          May I have permission, and if there is a fee for reprinting, will you please let me know the amount?
