Dear Mr. Warren:
I spoke to David Halberstam today about his impression that SNCC did not screen their workers on the voter registration project. Nothing was printed in the Times about it, but he knows that this is a point that Moses is rather proud of and so perhaps Mr. Moses could be quoted directly about this. Another person who is familiar with the no screening is Reverend Bruce Hanson of the National Council of Churches.
It seems that at the workshop college in Oxford, Ohio, the workers were told not to wear beards or shorts, etc., and to behave “properly,” but this was not enforced.
Hope this is of some help. I will see you Friday. Best wishes.
Sincerely yours,
(Mrs.) Nan Al Talese
